Sports leagues are often judged on how they end their seasons and crown a champion. CBS pays an absurd amount of money to claim the rights to March Madness for college basketball. October is all about the World Series. College football, forget that. The PGA has tweaked their end of season Fed Ex competition every year trying to figure out a way to build excitement and determine a champion.
Well it took the CGA just one try to get it. With much dismay from several of the crony wives, the CGA announced the new "Labor Day Double Dip" to end their season. Playing 18 holes on Labor Day to end the season is cool, but no one, including the commish expected the team and individual season titles to be so tight and all hinge on the outcome. "We were first approached by several advertisers who all wanted to get involved, but it was not about money, we truly feel this is a great way to finish the season. The way the schedule and points race came together is well... simply a miracle."
Before I get into the matchups and the details of Monday. I would like to point out what Dr. Jay has done this year. If they were to win the league on Monday, it will probably go down as one of the best stories ever in league history. For all of you slap dicks who whine, bitch, slice, 3 putt, run your mouth, etc. You should all take a lesson from Dr. Jay... they just go out and play solid golf, keep thier mouths shut and beat you. Vegas probably would have predicted a last place finish for these guys and they have a shot at a team title. Truly amazing, and if Chuckie can't get it done, here is one guy rooting for them to bring it home!!
Well on second thought, their are several teams that will be cheering for Dr. Jay in the afternoon (1:30) matches. Let me explain:
Porta Joe's 342.50 plays Dr. Jay and then Chuckie West
Dr. Jay 342.00 plays Porta Joe's and then has to watch the finish on a bye
Chuckie West 328.00 plays Bud-E-bel and then Porta Joe's
Bud-E-bel 322.00 plays Chuckie West and then WebBull
Son of Betts 321.50 plays WebBull and then MNQ
If Porta Joe's wins both matches odds are they will win the title. Regardless, if the match is close, the winner of the Chuckie West & Bud-E-bel match would be very much alive, especially Chuckie West as they finish with Porta Joe's. Basically, several teams are rooting for a close match or a Dr.Jay win to bring several teams into the race.
The Individual Race throws even more excitement into the mix. The current standings and who people play are as follows:
Feller 120.00 (plays Ayers & Watches with a Bye)
Greg May 109.50 (plays Webbie & Diwik)
Pete Ebel 108.50 (plays Shaffer & Smokin Joe)
Ayers 104.50 (plays Feller & Underwood)
Ayers and Feller play first. Let's take two different outcomes on this match to demonstrate the outcomes. If Feller wins 9 to 6, a very close match, then Greg needs 23 points in his two matches to win, Ebel would need 24 points in his two matches, and Ayers would be eliminated. If Ayers wins 11 to 4, then May would need 18 points in his two matches, Ebel 19 points, and Ayers would need 12 points. In a nut shell, if Feller can win, I predict he will win the individual title.
So when your wife bitches that you are playing golf all day on a holiday.... put your head down, take the heat, and remember The CGA Labor Day Double Dip is set up to be the most exciting finish ever in our historice league. First Tee time is 1:30, and the second tee times start at 5:00 pm. We might go off a tad early on the back, if the league office has completed the standings and handicaps. The Seminoles and Canes kick off that night as well.
