Let me start by stating, "I respect each and everyone of the CGA league members OFF the golf course. I truly look at all of you as good friends.
Unfortunately, ON the golf course I can count on one hand the individual golf games I personally respect. Rob Burkley, Andy Shaffer, and Pete Ebel back in the Undy-Ni-Ebel Days (his game now is questionable at times). I bring this up because I think it is a good time to really take a look at Greg May on the golf course. I never respected his golf game or really anything to do with Greg and Golf. In my mind, he was the guy that the golf manufacturers creamed over. The guy who would replace equipment in his bag on a yearly basis, if not monthly. Honestly, in some respect, it was sad to watch.
Over the history of the league, I still understood, for the most part, I had to take strokes from Greg. In golf league, I was always around an eight (8) and he was always around a four (4). So when I took the shots, it was clear that Greg was a better golfer than Brad Underwood. This was always very difficult for me to handle.
Fast forward to today. On Monday, August, 2nd I will play Greg straight up, as he mentioned, man vs. man. Honestly, I can not comprehend this. This would mean that if I would somehow beat Greg, I and the league will be able to honestly state that Brad Underwood has surpassed Greg May as a golfer. Some of you will see this as a sad day in the CGA. The guy that led us (somewhat) for so many years has completely fallen. How he falls will be intersting to watch. Does he exit with class, such as a Jack Nicklaus, or does he list countless excuses about age, kids, driving to soccer, etc. One can learn a great deal about an individual when they face a crisis in their life.
I support the $5 wagering - and ask for the Cronies to come forward with their wallets. A $5 bet on me supports "Lighten up, Golf League is Supposed to be about having FUN." Side note, All of you on my Ryder Cup Team- you will get your shot to take Greg down on September 25th!! (Brinkman, Porterfield, Doug May, Tazz, Schoemer, Burkley, Budzik, and Tommy Fry) All guys who will get after it in a match-play format. No whiners!
I know one thing, at 5:16 pm Monday night, I will be ready to play Greg May straight up for the right to call themselves a better golfer. Here is to hoping we all get to see the "PENGUIN MARCH" off of the 18th hole!!
