Hos Retires; Geraghty Returns

On Monday, Bret Hosket became the third CGA'er to turn his card in this offseason. It was news that nobody wanted to hear, but many speculated was coming. Hos had this to say to his fellow Cronies:

"I have made the very tough decision to turn in my 2011 CGA card. I am thankful that the reasons for this decision are family commitments….we just have too much going on to miss that many Monday nights. Obviously I am going to miss seeing everyone each week and I am disappointed that I am missing first year at Hickory. I think you guys are going to have a blast.

The CGA has become much more than just a golf league. I see cronies at weddings, funerals, parties, hospitals, ballgames, vacations, charity functions, etc. It is a fantastic group to be associated with and I sincerely hope that I can become an active member again someday in the future. I am proud to be a Crony."

Hosket leaves the CGA ranked 11th in career earnings with $2,225 over 9 seasons. His name appears on the Wall of Fame four times. He may go down in history as one of the best teammates a Crony could have as he was a part of two team championships (2003 with Ebel and 2007 with Shaffer) and two Touch 'Em All majors (2009 with Swanson and 2010 with Tzagournis). That being said, I'm sure he will be at the top of many Crony's sub lists going forward.

Since learning of Hos' departure, your Commisioner has been hard at work trying to get our league back to 16 players. It has always been the CGA's practice to first check with former players when an opening comes up, and I am pleased to announce that Steve Geraghty has agreed to rejoin the CGA in 2011. Geraghty had this to say about his return:

"After discussing with my family (I asked Sally and she said OK) and a lot of soul searching (about 3 minutes of it), I have decided to accept the invitation to rejoin the league for the 2011 golf season. I look forward to meeting back up with the group on Mondays and look forward to the new challenges that Hickory Hills will present. I intend to begin a workout program immediately that will focus on some basic weight training, cardio 3 to 4 times per week and stretching exercises. All of this in hopes of not splitting the ass out of my shorts when I squat down to read my putt on #1."

Welcome back, Steve.

So the CGA appears to have survived 3 departures this offseason and is ready to head into the 2011 season with 16 golfers ready for a new course. Not just any new course...but the Hick. We will meet this Saturday, February 26th at 8pm at Johnnie's Glenn Avenue to pick teams. We will also discuss and vote on whether to shorten to a 14 week schedule or stay at a 16 week schedule with two "special" weeks. We will also discuss Major dates for 2011 and finances.

Let's Get Ready to Get Ready!
