I'm starting to feel more like the Grim Reaper than the new commissioner of the CGA. Today I received an email from Scott Schoemer, who sadly has decided to hang-up his golf spikes for the 2011 season.
Never one to boast, Schoemer leaves the CGA with 6 major titles. That is not a typo. The 6 majors were accumulated over a span of four years. He won 4 straight CGA match play tournaments (2004-2007). That is not a typo either. He also won 2 straight Touch 'Em All team tournaments (2006 & 2007). Do the math, and you quickly realize that in 2006 and 2007 he won both majors in both years. Schoemer amassed $1,750 in career earnings over a 10 year playing career.
Schoemer has already made it known to the Grim Reaper (aka the new Commish) that he would like to return to the CGA when his youth baseball coaching load lightens. His departure drops the CGA membership back to 16, a number that works nicely for scheduling purposes (bye weeks are a thing of the past, fellas). His departure also means that if you are reading this blog and you are not currently in the CGA but you want to be....well, we always need subs. Unless, of course, the Grim Reaper strikes again!!!
"I am typing this in a sad state of mind but I will have to resign my membership with the CGA. I have made a commitment that I need to stick with and Mondays are bad. I am coaching Reid on his travel team and we have practice and games on Monday starting in April 1st ending July 1st. I will miss way to many CGA events to make it worth my time or my partners so I will have to give up my spot. I want to thank everyone for making Mondays a night to look forward to. Nothing better than playing with all the guys on Monday, I will truly miss it. As bad as a golfer as I am, it was still fun because of the all people involved. Enjoy the new course, what an upgrade and it is killing me to not be able to see if I can improve my game at Hickory Hills."
