Week One Is In the Books (Finally)

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. After a rocky off-season that saw three players retire, one player come out of retirement, a switch of venues and a whole lot of rain, the CGA was finally able to kick-off its eleventh season on Monday May 16th at Hickory Hills Golf Club. It was, no doubt, the latest start to a season the CGA has ever had. With that being said, one would think that weather would not be an issue in mid-May; instead we had temperatures in the high 40's and intermittent showers.

To no one's surprise, the Hick proved to be a huge upgrade over GCD. The greens were outstanding and surprisingly quick given the wet conditions, a prelude to what is to come this summer as things dry out. And while we still had to search for a few golf balls, we didn't have to search for balls that were the result of a GOOD shot. The Hick is fair if anything, something that you cannot say for GCD.

Scores were a bit on the high side, but given the conditions and the fact that no one has had much of a chance to practice this Spring, that was not much of a shocker. Ryan Webb posted the Low Gross in Week 1 with a 39. Only eight other players broke 50. Yours truly posted the Low Net in Week 1 with a 44/35. Shamelessly, I am awarding myself the Player of the Week award because (a) I had Low Net, (b) I had the most points with 12.5, (c) I had five pars, and (d) as Commissioner I had to put up with a ton of Underwood's bullshit the past few weeks. For this last reason alone, I deserve POW.

On the team front, Cat Piss rubbed Dos Hickies noses in it with a resounding 36.5-to-8.5 ass whipping. Nobody that I'm aware of gives Cat Piss much of a chance this season, but as Joe can attest to, the longer you leave Cat Piss untreated the harder it is to get rid of.

Finally, a little housekeeping. In the Individual Standings we will be dropping the lowest two scores from everyone's total this year. In year's past we dropped the lowest four, but two of those were bye weeks and we do not have bye weeks this year.

And finally-finally, thank you to those of you who paid last night. Look for an update from our Treasurer this week and if you still have not paid, there is always next week (before Hans Solo takes over).
