CGA Goes Low in Week 6

Wow. Leave it to the Cronies. We have ONE week where 15 out of 16 shoot below a net 40, including 8 at net par or better, and everyone is up in arms about moving back to the black tees. Relax fellas! Look at the Handicap Report. It shows the following:
  • 9 players' handicaps have increased since Week 1 and only 4 have decreased (T. Freiburger, D. May, G. May and B. Underwood), while 3 have remained the same.
  • The average handicap in Week 1 was a 7.3. The average handicap for Week 7 will be 8.7.
Apparently Cronies don't like stats though, because the prevailing sentiment at BWW after the round last night seemed to be that we should move back to the black tees next year. Some were even pushing for moving to the blacks at the halfway point this year (something this Commissioner is strongly against). As I reminded some last night, the Hick has been host to Monday outings all through the month of June and as a result the tees have been moved up. I have been told that there are no outings in July, so expect the tees to be moved back and the greens to become a lot faster in the coming weeks.

Moving on, for the first time this season selecting a Player of the Week required some thought. That is because there were five deserving candidates:
  • Jason Diwik shot a net 30 (lowest of the year) and scored 12 points moving him into 1st place in the standings.
  • Tommy Freiburger shot a net 31 which included 5 consecutive pars on his way to a 13-2 victory.
  • Doug May shot a net 40/31 that included two birdies and only 12 putts in his 11.5-3.5 win.
  • Steve Geraghty had a season best 44/32 and won his match 13-2.
  • Ryan Webb once again shot the lowest gross (38) and won 12-3.
And the Week 6 POW goes to..........wait for it.......... Jason Diwik.

On the team front, all I can say is "MEOW".

A reminder that we are OFF for next Monday, July 4th. We will return on July 11th which will mark the end of the first half of the season. Incredible.

Finally, another reminder that the Touch 'Em All team major is scheduled for Saturday, July 16th at Hickory. You have already paid for 27 holes that day, so if you cannot make it you need to find a sub that will pay you back ($80). This tournament will be played from the Black Tees.
