The Doctor is IN

After five weeks, it appears that Jorge from U.A. and Hickory Hills GC are a match made in heaven. On Monday he posted a 49/31 against week 4 POW Jay Feller, which was good for 13 points and gave Tzagournis his 4th consecutive victory. The net 31 stands as the low net for the year so far. And don't be surprised if Jorge stays atop the standings for awhile as it appears he is just getting better each week. His gross scores this year are 63, 55, 55, 53 and 49.

On the team front, it might be time to pull up the carpet and scrub the floor with bleach....Cat Piss is not going away. In a match that featured three subs, Cat Piss (with brother Mike stepping in for Joe Barrett) defeated the subs representing MOzikalicious (Ozzy and Swanny) 31.5-13.5 giving them just enough points to overtake Fua Twoa, who defeated Stickit and Lickit 27.5-17.5. The team of the week has to be Dos Hickies, however, who shot a team net score of 71 to defeat Duh...Winning 35.5-9.5. In this match, Tom Freiburger displayed the kind of true grit that champions are made of when he returned from an "emergency" in the woods behind Hole #3 (his last hole of the day) to sink a par putt. They say there is no "I" in "TEAM", but apparently there is a "U" in "DUMP" Tommy.

So here we sit after five weeks with a high handicapper atop the individual standings, and the highest handicapped team on top of the team standings. Conventional wisdom says that handicaps were inflated by the heather at GCD and those players with the highest handicaps are benefiting during the early part of this season while the late season scores posted there last year are still in the calculation. But a quick scan of the Handicap Report tells a different story. It shows that the high handicappers are remaining level, and in some cases, coming down while the low handicappers are increasing (in some cases rapidly). What does it all mean? I think it says that it is much tougher to go low at HH, but it is also much tougher to post a score in the high 50's like we saw on a weekly basis at GCD. The scores are bunched up this year and it is making for some really tight matches. Keep in mind that after next week, all handicaps for those who haven't missed any weeks will be based solely on results at Hickory. Soon enough GCD -results will be out of the picture and things will get very interesting.
