Joe Ayers turned in another robotic effort Monday night on his way to a 39/33 and the POW award for Week 3. Joe-Bot dismantled the Week 2 POW Greg May, by a score of 12-3 giving him 35 individual points after three weeks and a 3 point lead in the standings over his team partner Brad Underwood (Fua). Joe-Bot took control of the match with May after May, driving the cart for team Dos Hickies on hole #9, ran over a suicide squirrel that dashed in front of him. The groups that followed on #9 were treated to an ugly scene. May said it was the best contact he made all night.
Honorable mention for POW goes to Rob Burkley and Steve Porterfield who both shot 40, Burkley by way of 6 pars and Porterfield by way of 2 birdies and 3 pars.
Not surprisingly, the Ayers-Underwood tandem known as Fua Twoa (pronounced "foo-ah two-ah" for those wondering) is out to a commanding lead in the team standings. No other team is within 20 points of them, and a team many saw as preseason favorites (PorterFeller) finds itself 53.5 points off the pace already. Rest assured, there's a lot of golf yet to be played my fellow Cronies.
I think it is fair to say at this point that the move to HHGC has been a HUGE positive for this league. Although a bit off the beaten path, the fact that we are basically the only people out there on Mondays combined with the shotgun starts has meant that no one has ever had to wait to hit a shot nor been pushed from behind. And this fact alone (to say nothing about what a great track it is) has convinced this hack that we have a good thing going here.
A reminder for next week that we will shotgun at 6pm. Neither Greg nor I will be there, so that leaves former Commish Brad Underwood in charge. Be prepared to play at least one hole from the red tees or something as Brad will undoubtedly try to leave his mark on this season. If you think you will need a sub for next week, please try to let Greg or I know by Thursday so that we can print scorecards before we leave for vacation (Peter, if you are reading this, we all hope you can rejoin us next week buddy...it isn't the same without you).
