Robel's Army wins the TEA; Week 9 Recap

First, a recap of this year's Touch 'Em All:
  • Congratulations to Robel's Army, who won the 2011 TEA going away. The Army shot net 34 on the Best Ball, a net 27 on the Scramble (32 gross), and a net 31 on the Alt. Shot (41 gross) for a total score of 92 which was 15 under par. The highlight of the round came on the par 5 twelfth hole in the Scramble; Brinkman hit driver-driver to put the Army on the green in two and then the Good Doctor drained the putt for an eagle.
  • Second place in the TEA goes to PorterFeller, who shot a 32/30/35 for a 97 (10 under par). Finishing third was Fua Twoa at 9 under par.
  • From what I gathered, the course conditions for both Saturdays were similar and it was extremely hot each day.
  • Taking nothing away from Robel's Army, who by eyewitness accounts played lights-out (both of them), there may be some motions on the floor for how we administer handicaps at the TEA next year. There is no need to discuss the potential changes now, however I will be putting out a survey at the end of the season that includes a few new ideas.
A recap of Week 9:
  • Rob Burkley is an easy choice for this week's POW. Burks shot a 37/32 that qualifies for the low gross score of the year. His round included 8 pars and a bogey. The bogey didn't come until hole 8, his seventh hole of the night. Pete Ebel was the poor Crony on the wrong end of this buzz-saw; Ebel shot a respectable 43/38 but lost to Burks 12.5-2.5.
  • K.C. Budzik continued his winning ways with a 11.5-3.5 drubbing of sub Andrew Lorms. Budzik shot a 43/34 and extended his lead in the Individual Standings to 7 points over second place Tommy Freiburger. However, Budzy's 9 handicap will drop to an 8 next week (actually 7.50) and will continue to go down if he keep shooting in the low 40's.
  • On the team front, Cat Piss was taken to the wood shed for the second straight week after losing 30.5-14.5 to the subs standing in for Fua Twoa. It could have been worse though. Had Fua simply flipped the subs (i.e. had Schoemer play Barrett and Hos play May) the result would have been a 36.5-8.5 victory. That's a 12 point swing in a race that sees Cat Piss holding on to a 20 point lead over Fua Twoa.
  • With only five weeks remaining, both the Individual and Team standings are still wide open.
Other observations:
  • Sub rounds per team: Cat Piss and Mozikalicious lead with 7, Fua Twoa 4, Duh...Winning and Stickit and Lickit 2, and the rest have one.
  • Schoemer (33.5) and Hosket (34.3) have lower average net scores than any member of the CGA. I would imagine each sub will be very popular over the next few weeks.
  • The highest birdie average belongs to Jason Diwik (0.429) and the highest par average belongs to his teammate Ryan Webb (4.56). Stickit and Lickit is in 7th place.
  • The key to winning the League? Budzik averages the most bogeys (4.63).
