Remarkable. That's the word that comes to mind when I look at the Wall of Fame and realize that Ryan Webb's name is nowhere to be found. With one week left in the 2011 season, there's a good chance that the "best player to never win" will get the monkey off his back....one way or another. After winning his last six matches, and seven of his last eight, Webb finds himself with a 2 point lead over Brinkman and a 4 point lead over Budzik in the Individual Standings. (Note: It will be interesting to see if any of these three get up from the Swoosh table and hit the sack a little early on Saturday night...er, Sunday morning) Webbie will be giving Geraghty seven shots in Week 14, a tough task if Geraghty fires a 43/34 like he did last night. Brinks will give Greg May two shots and Budzik will give Ayers one shot in the final week.
If Webb is unable to hold on in the Individual Standings, he has another good chance at the Wall of Fame in the team race. Stickit & Lickit continued taking care of business with a 31.5 point effort against PorterFeller and now finds itself in 1st place with a 8.5 point lead over Duh...Winning and Fua Twoa, who are tied for 2nd. With a tip of the cap to the Golf Gods, fate would have it that Stickit and Duh play each other in the final week. For the first time this season I can say that I wish we didn't do shotgun starts because I would love to put this foursome off last and have the rest of the league watch them come up the hill on 18. What drama.
Fua Twoa will face MOzikalicious in Week 14, while Cat Piss (who still has a legitimate shot at the money) will play PorterFeller.
With all due respect to Steve Geraghty and his low-net 43/34, Player of the Week goes to Ryan Webb for the second week in a row. Webb was the only player to break 40 and more importantly, he was the only player in the top 6 to win his match, proving that he really does have ice in his veins.
In my opinion this has been one of the more competitive seasons in CGA history. I think the move to Hick was a huge plus and resulted in a tighter bunching of the handicaps. This made for some very tight matches. This weekend we will send the 2011 season out with 45 holes over 3 days. The crown jewel of every CGA season is Black Diamond. We all know how much fun BD is, but to turn around and play the final week of the season on Monday...with all of the possibilities in both the Individual and Team Standings...well, I can't think of a better way to end this great season. Good luck to everyone on Saturday, and good luck to everyone still playing for something on Monday. Cheers!
