CGA Reaches Halfway Point...Or Does It?

At the conclusion of action on Mundy night, the CGA reached the traditional halfway point in the season.  Ahhhh, but this is not your father's CGA.  In 2012, we have added the mid-season 'Screw Your Partner' week.  More on that later, as we first give a brief recap of Week 8 and what is still the halfway point in the Team race.  Confused yet?  Call Mickey Mouse for an explanation.

As difficult as it was to pick a Player of the Week last week, there was one clear choice in Week 8.  Steve Porterfield fired a 2-over par 37 (net 30) and bested the next lowest gross score by 4 shots.  The 37 was the lowest gross score in the League this year and was highlighted by 2 birdies, one on 10 and one on 13.  Nice work, Port.  Pick a cool avatar.

Honorable mention to "Playa of the Week" George Tzagournis for his outstanding photo updates from Put-In-Bay over the weekend.

In team play, See You on Mundy got back on track with a 27-18 victory over defending champion Stickit & Lickit, and in the process extended its lead over Steller to 19 points.  Steller lost to Geez! 28-17 which moved Geez! into 3rd place.  Here We Go, led by Porterfield, tallied the most points in Week 8 with a 31.5-13.5 win over MoJoe Risin'.

And now we look forward to Week 9 and the first-ever (and possibly last-ever, if some have their way) Screw Your Partner event.  This event, along with the "Get to Know Your Partner" event in Week 1, were added to this year's schedule because HHGC wanted us to play (and pay for) a minimum of 16 weeks this year.  Without taking a League vote, because we know how those go, I decided to add two "Mickey Mouse" events to the schedule...one that didn't count in the standings but offered a small amount of Prize Money, and one that did count in the standings (Individual, anyways).  Personally, I never cared for the fact that our Individual Champion, by luck of the draw, never had to play one of the other Cronies...his partner.  It seems more fair to me that the Individual Champion be required to play every one of the other 15 CGA members on his way to the title.  It never occurred to me that there might be some Cronies who would consider tanking their round in Week 9 to help their partner out in the Individual race.  And while I still don't think that will happen, the topic has been raised in other forums (GroupMe).  We'll see what happens on Mundy, but I thought I would take this opportunity to explain how we got here and the thought process behind the event.

So I'll see you all next Monday, and we'll see you in two Mundy's....if you catch my drift.
