A heavy downpour hit the western half of Columbus at 4pm on Monday, which resulted in lots of brake lights on I-270 and I-670 and a challenging commute to the Hick for many of the Cronies. Thankfully, the league didn't start play until 6pm due to a large outing at the course. And once Week 5 was underway, the only thing that falling from the sky was an array of golf balls onto the softened greens on the back nine of our beloved HHGC. After posting an average score of 48.6 in Week 4, the Cronies collectively knocked 4 shots off their average score in Week 5 (44.6). Seven players shot a net par or better. And for those who like bell curves, we had 3 golfers shoot under 40, 11 golfers in the 43-47 range, and 2 golfers at 50 or more.
See You on Mundy, powered by Busch beer, continued its early season run with a 29.5-15.5 defeat of MoJoe Risin'. Mundy has amassed 153.5 points after 5 weeks and now has a commanding 34 point lead over MoJoe Risin', who remains in second place with 119.5 points. On Mundy, the team was led by Doug May's 38/28, which included a birdie, 4 pars and 4 bogeys and was good enough for his second consecutive Player of the Week award. May's handicap has finally begun to come back to Earth, as he will be an 8 in Week 6. Special mention for the POW goes to Greg May and Pete Ebel, who both shot 39/33. Greg May's effort led Geeez! to a 35.5-9.5 slaughter of Here We Go, which was the biggest margin of victory in Week 5.
The Individual Standings are now kicking out the lowest score for each golfer, and as a result there is a three-way tie at the top between Jay Feller, Joe Barrett an Doug May. As we all know, it is way too early to spend any time analyzing this race.
Have a great week, Cronies....and we'll See You on Mundy.
