Take the Points

Congratulations to the 2013 Touch 'Em All Champions Jay Feller and Brett Southworth, who aren't really teammates but were paired together (randomly) when their respective season partners bailed on the tournament.  For the 3rd year in a row, I also bailed on the tournament so I cannot really comment on what happened but I can tell you that Feller and Southworth won the Scramble, won the Best Ball, and tied with overall 2nd place finisher Bardzy for the lowest Modified Alternate Shot score.  That's what you call going wire-to-wire.  Kudos also go to Joe Barrett for what, by all accounts, was a great after-party at the family cottage in Hideaway Hills.

Its hard to believe but two days after the Touch 'Em All, the Cronies completed the first quarter of the 2013 season at the Hick.  Week 3 of individual matches was highlighted by the return of CGA legend Ryan Webb, who subbed for Southworth and went on to post the low gross score for the week (42, tied with Doug May).

So far this season, selecting the Player of the Week has proven to be a difficult task and this week is no exception.  Candidates include:
  • Brad Underwood, who shot Low Net (44/33) and beat his arch-rival Greg May 12-3, all while battling a case of Monkey Ass.
    • Counter Argument - Undy is not normally an 11 handicap;
  • Doug May, who shot Low Gross (42/35) and scored the most points with a 12.5-2.5 win over Rob Burkley.
    • Counter Argument - May missed the TEA;
  • Bret Benack, who shaved 7 strokes off his Week 2 score of 60 with a 53/36.  Benack had a crucial par on his final hole (#9) to defeat George Tzagournis (who shot a very respectable 48/35) and secure the win for his team.
    • Counter Argument - Benack shot a 53;
  • KC Budzik, who cranked out 6 bogies and a birdie on #5 for a 43/34 and a win over John Brinkman 11.5-3.5.
    • Counter Argument - Since when do we reward bogies?
  • Jay Feller, who won the TEA on Saturday and then shot a 43/35 on Monday to defeat Steve Porterfield 11.5-3.5.
    • Counter Argument - Can't think of one
Jay Feller is your Player of the Week, his second such honor of the young season.

Finally, I wish all Cronies a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.  May I suggest that you "take the points" and spend next Monday night with your families, friends and/or loved ones.  The CGA season will resume on Monday, June 3rd and will then run continuously through Saturday, August 24th at Black Diamond.
