It was a fascinating finish for Chubba Bubba, your 2013 Team Champions. Brett Southworth and John Brinkman decimated Balds Deep in the final week 37.5-7.5 to overtake RG Fore, who held a 0.75 point lead going into the week. RG Fore posted a 34.5-10.5 victory over Fua Threea.....a valiant effort that proved to be not enough. What is fascinating about Southworth (36/31) and Brinkman (40/35) is that while beating the shit out of Balds Deep they were also battling against each other for the Individual title. Southworth held a 0.5 point lead heading into the week and his 13-2 victory over Doug May was enough to hold off Brinkman and his 12.5-2.5 win over Bret Benack. Southworth is your Week 16 Player of the Week, followed closely by Steve Porterfield who followed-up his CGA Match Play championship with a 37/31 on Monday.
It was another great finish to a great CGA season...a golf league that has seen numerous great finishes to great seasons. It has been a pleasure serving as your Commisioner the past three seasons and I leave the position confident that the state of the league is as strong as ever.

One Week To Go
With one week to go in the 2013 season, Bert Saltworth took a 1/2 point lead over his partner on Monday night in the Individual Standings....this despite playing 13 subs this season (if you haven't heard). Saltworth's 6 point effort versus Jay Feller was enough to overtake John Brinkman, who lost 12-3 to Steve Geraghty, who apparantly found his game in Northern Michigan. Steve Porterfield goes into the final week in 3rd place, just 3 points off the pace, followed by Joe Barrett (-4.5) and Greg May (-5). In the final matchups, Saltworth will play Doug May straight-up, Brinkman will play Benack and give him 10 shots. Porterfield and Barrett will square off, with Porterfield giving up 6 shots. Greg May will play Feller and yield 6 shots. As it seems to do every year, this one looks like it will come down to the 18th green at dusk.
The Team Standings are also as tight as can be with a new leader on top. RG Fore overtook Chubba Bubba and clings to a 0.75 point lead. Balls on Fire also remains in the picture, just 7 points off the pace. RG Fore will play 5th place Fua Threea in the final match while Chubba Bubba plays last place Balds Deep and Balls on Fire plays 4th place Bar-dzy.
Good luck to all of you still playing for something.
Catching up on Player's of the Week....congrats to Greg May (Week 12), KC Budzik (Week 13), Joe Ayers (Week 14) and Bret Benack (Week 15). Benack shot a season best 47/29 that included his first birdie of the year. Furthermore, he beat the league's hottest player Joe Ayers 9-6.
The final week of the season also brings our beloved end of the year tournament....The CGA Match-Play Tournament at Black Diamond. Watch your emails and this blog for tournament brackets and other pertinent information in the coming days....but congrats to Mr. Saltworth who has earned the bracket's only bye at this point.
