Catching Up

It has been two weeks since the last time I did Dougie Style so here is everything I missed:

  • John Brinkman and Brett Southworth earned Week 5 Co-Players of the Week.  Brinkman shot a 39/32 and Southworth shot a 38/33, both good for 12-3 victories over Joe Ayers and sub Dan Freiburger, respectively;
  • It was a beautiful day for the 2014 Touch 'Em All at Winding Hollow on Saturday, May 31st.  This year's champion is Peter Piper who shot an ahhhhhhhh.......not sure what happened to all the scorecards but I do know that PP was 2 shots down to Slice and Dice entering the Modified Alternate Shot portion of the event and ended-up winning by a comfortable margin.  Slice and Dice ended up tied for 2nd place with Pro B1's.  This marks the 4th TEA title for Greg May and his 5th major title.  For Pete Ebel this is his first TEA title, second major and, perhaps most impressively, he becomes only the second player in CGA history to complete the Career Slam.  KC Budzik was the first.  Congrates to Pete and Greg!
  • John Brinkman and Brett Southworth stayed red hot and earned Co-Players of the Week for the second week in a row in Week 6.  This is the first time two players (and partners no less) have shared POW in consecutive weeks.  Brinkman shot a 38/33 and beat KC Budzik 12-3 while Southy shot a 38/35 to defeat Rob Burkley's 41/36 in a close 9-6 match.  Both players had 7 pars.  Also noteworthy was sub Dan Freiburger's 36/32.
  • Top 5 Individual Standings adjusted for bye weeks:
    1. Jay Feller (10.1 avg)
    2. John Brinkman  (9.3)
    3. KC Budzik (9.0)
    4. Joe Ayers (8.7)
    5. Steve Porterfield & Pete Ebel (8.1)
  • Top 5 Team Standings adjusted for bye weeks:
    1. Tony Subprano (28.8)
    2. Two Hearted (27.0)
    3. Chubba Bubba 2.0 (26.1)
    4. Hear Ye! (23.8)
    5. Peter Piper (22.0)
  • Kudos to the entire league for playing a relatively quick round on Monday.  It seems the threat of a severe thunderstorm at 8pm did the trick.
  • Due to a large outing at HHGC next Monday 6/9, the shotgun start will be delayed to around 6pm.  Mike said we could go off as soon as carts are ready but he estimated this wouldn't be until 6pm...it could be a little earlier or it could be a little later.  Perhaps the threat of darkness will keep the Cronies playing 'quickly' for a second straight week.
  • Lastly, I have had a few Cronies inquire about how the starting holes are determined each week for the shotgun start.  Some groups seem to start on the same holes every week (or every other week) and there is a reason for that.  Starting holes are determined by adding up the entire foursome's handicap.  The lowest handicapped foursome goes off on 4 or 13 and the highest handicapped foursome goes off on 1 or 10.  This is done strictly for pace of play reasons and is not intended to penalize anyone in particular.
